Tehama County Offers Sports and Entertainment
Nestled in the northern Sacramento Valley, a two-hour drive north of Sacramento, lies Tehama County, aka Tehama Country. Much like a Norman Rockwell-style portrait of life, Tehama County offers fishing, hunting, ranching, agriculture, and country living activities such as ice cream socials, downtown art walks, and family-oriented fairs and events.
Tehama County is the gateway to the unique Lassen Volcanic National Park – one of the snowiest places in the lower 48 states! It offers a variety of outdoors activities including fishing, hunting, hiking, camping, horseback riding, snow shoeing, and cross-country skiing.
Just a few miles north in neighboring Shasta and Siskiyou Counties are two more popular recreational sites, Lake Shasta and Mt. Shasta Ski Park. In the warmer months, visitors enjoy a variety of water sports from house boating to water skiing on the expansive lake. In the winter months, the Mt. Shasta Ski Park offers downhill and cross-country skiing, a fabulous ski lodge, and a variety of cabins and other hotel accommodations.
For those who enjoy the sports of our western roots, Tehama County offers the largest West Coast rodeo competition, the Red Bluff Round Up, along with such other equestrian venues as horse shows and livestock sales.
One of the most popular events is the Red Bluff Bull and Gelding Sale held every January which includes horse and working cattle dog shows, a fabulous Western Expo including art, jewelry, furniture and clothing, and well-attended livestock sales.
With mild winters and warm summers, Tehama County is very nearly a golfer’s paradise. We have several fine private and public golf courses within the county, as well as in Shasta, Siskiyou and Butte Counties.
Entertainment is offered by our vintage Red Bluff, State Theater and nearby Redding and Chico have a variety of venues offered at various locations including the Redding Convention Center. A short 3 hour drive will land you in the northern California mecca of culture, San Francisco, Bay Area where major league sports, plays, concerts, operas, shopping and dining await you!
Tehama County is the northstate gateway to year-round recreation.
